Learn on the kit
that's actually in the booth.

Rather just ask? Ring or message me — I answer myself, and there is no hard sell. Norfolk hours, real person.

Most lessons teach you a controller. Then you turn up to your first gig, see a pair of CDJ-3000s and a V10, and freeze. Here you're on the real thing from the first hour — so nothing on the night is a surprise.

The kit you'll be on

Club gear, in a front room.

This is the bit that's genuinely hard to find. Most schools teach on entry-level controllers, because club gear costs more than the classroom. Almost nobody has this set up at home.

Who's teaching

Thirty years of doing it the hard way.

I started on borrowed 1210s in the mid-90s, learning by wrecking mixes in front of people and having someone older tell me exactly why it went wrong. No YouTube, no forums.

Me, mid-90s, learning it the hard way.

I've spent the last while writing all of it down properly — that's the rest of this site: 42 free lessons, no signup, no card. The lessons are the same thing in person, on real gear, with someone watching your hands and telling you why it isn't landing.

These days it's a family thing, too — my son Bear's growing up around this gear and genuinely loves it, so DJ Foundations isn't a one-man operation anymore. If you've got a kid who's shown the same spark, that's exactly who this site — and the junior lessons — are built for.

Don't take my word for it — here's Bear.

Thirty-five seconds of my lad on the decks at home. Same kit, same front room the lessons happen in — this is what "learning on real gear" actually looks like. Sound on.

Before you ask

The things people check first.

I've never touched a pair of decks. Is that actually OK?
Yes — it's the most common starting point. Lessons start wherever you are, including from nothing at all, and nothing is assumed. Beginners, juniors and people coming back to it after years off are all welcome.
Do I need to bring any equipment?
No. All equipment is provided — bring nothing but yourself. You'll be on Pioneer CDJ-3000X players, a six-channel DJM-V10-LF, a DJS-1000, RMX-IGNITE, Technics SL-1210 turntables and a Denon Prime Go+.
Where do the lessons happen?
In person in King's Lynn, Norfolk, where the rig lives — it's a full club setup, not something that packs into a car boot. Send an enquiry below and we'll sort a time and I'll give you the details.
How much is it, and do I have to book a block?
£40 for a single hour, or £140 for a block of four hours — which saves you £20 against the hourly rate. A single lesson is exactly that: there's no obligation to book a block.
Can my son or daughter learn here?
Yes — juniors are very welcome. For anyone under 18 a parent or guardian is asked to stay for the session, and I'm happy to have a chat first so you both know exactly what to expect.
Vinyl or digital — which one will I be taught?
Whichever you want. The Technics SL-1210s and the CDJ-3000X players are in the same room, so you can learn on one, the other, or both.
What will I actually be able to do after four hours?
The block of four covers beatmatching, phrasing, EQ, harmonic mixing and building a set — long enough to genuinely mix, so you finish able to play a proper 30-minute set rather than just poke buttons.
I'm nowhere near Norfolk. Is there anything here for me?
Yes, and it stays free. There are 42 written lessons and a set of browser practice tools on this site — no signup, no card, nothing to pay.
How do I book, and how quickly will you reply?
Three ways, whichever suits you: message the Facebook page, use the enquiry form below, or email [email protected]. All three land on my phone. Real person, usually a same-day reply.
What's the free meet & greet — is there a catch?
No catch. 15 minutes, no charge: come and see the gear, meet me, ask whatever you want. This is a brand new business with no reviews yet, so it's the easiest way to check it's legit before you hand over £40 and your address to a stranger off the internet. No obligation to book anything afterwards. Just tick "meet and greet" in the form below.
