Music is playing, the deck says so, but the channel is dead. Don't start turning everything — walk the signal chain in order and the fault identifies itself in under a minute.

1

Input selector first

The rotary/switch at the top of the channel strip must match the socket the deck is actually plugged into — LINE for CDJs, PHONO for turntables, USB/digital for a laptop. This is the #1 cause: the channel is listening to an empty socket.

2

Watch the channel meter, then the trim

If the channel's own meter shows no signal, the problem is upstream — cable or source. If it shows signal, the problem is downstream. Set TRIM so peaks sit around 0 dB.

3

Check the EQ and filter kills

Three EQs fully off (on kill-type EQs) = silence that looks like a fault. Filter knob hard left or right on a V10-style channel filter = the same. Twelve o'clock everything.

4

Channel fader up, then crossfader assign

Fader up is obvious — the crossfader assign switch isn't. If the channel is assigned to side A and the crossfader sits on side B, the channel is muted by design. Set the assign to THRU when you're not scratching.

5

Swap cables last

Signal on the meter but nothing anywhere? Swap the suspect channel's cables with a working channel. Fault follows the cable = cable. Fault stays = the channel; try a different input on the mixer.

Why this happens

A mixer channel is a fixed series chain — input select → trim → EQ → fader → assign → master. A break anywhere kills everything after it, so testing in chain order finds the break without guesswork.
